2026 - Spring

The concept of Micro Gifting was first materialized on January 9th, 2026. A detailed document was created to list the Purpose, Scope, Monetary Logistics, Gift Logistics, Scale Up, and Wish List. This website was first created on January 15, 2026. GitHub pages was utilized for deployment. The theme for the website is 'Spectral' by HTML5UP; you can view their website here. The domain was purchased via PorkBun with default configurations for Github. The price of the domain was $10.81 paid by Turibius. Auto-renewal was set to off (please remind Turibius to auto-renew in January of next year just in case he forgets!)

Particular note from Turibius: Read the Purpose! It is very easy to start brainstorming different ideas, solutions, and strategies, and eventually deviate from the core values that micro gifting started off with. Reading the Purpose simultaneously aided me a lot in defining clear goals and success criteria.

A Wise account was created. This took no more than 5 minutes. To transfer funds to Bangladesh, someone in Bangladesh has to have:

  • a Wise account, or
  • bKash/Nagad account, or
  • a bank account
Of these options, bKash/Nagad is the easiest as it does not require a national ID card, however, a bank account is preferred. Bank account creation would take some time as creating a national ID takes time.

As of 2026-02-14, progress is paused due to personal challenges on the side of the local coordinators.

Current timeline is:

  • By 2026-01-16: Come up with details for Micro Gifting
  • By 2026-01-24: Make website for Micro Gifting
  • By 2026-01-31: Identify 3 local coordinators in Bangladesh
  • By 2026-02-14: Confirm support from at least teachers at BACHA English Medium School
  • By 2026-02-28: Confirm support from the principal
  • By 2026-02-28: Identify a minimum of 15 donors who wants to be a part of the pilot phase, and their values align with the purpose of Micro Gifting
  • By 2026-02-28: Local coordinators look into creating a bank in Bangladesh, and setting up Wise
  • By 2026-03-31: Bank account and Wise account created and ready-to-go
  • By 2026-04-01: Finished collecting donations
  • By 2026-04-07: Transfer donations to local coordinators
  • By 2026-04-26: Finished purchasing the gifts
  • By 2026-05-01: Finished distributing the gifts
  • By 2026-05-10: Finish submitting all reports (receipts, proofs, etc.)
